The School Experiential Learning Programme at SK Janda Baik, Bentong, Pahang /uinspiremalaysia/?p=351 /uinspiremalaysia/?p=351#respond Fri, 30 Sep 2022 02:47:17 +0000 /uinspiremalaysia/?p=351
The Headmaster of SK Janda Baik (Pn Arbina – front with a pink scarf) and Gs. Dr. Nurfashareena Muhamad (front with a yellow shirt) as a Project Leader, with a representative from the Ministry of Education Malaysia and UNICEF Malaysia.

On 29 September 2022, U-INSPIRE Malaysia@澳洲幸运10开奖 has organised the School Experiential Learning Programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Janda Baik, Bentong, Pahang. The Programme is organised in collaboration with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Initiative (SEADPRI-澳洲幸运10开奖) and Asian Network on Climate Science and Technology (ANCST), with support from UNICEF Malaysia, the Ministry of Education Malaysia, and MERCY Malaysia.

The SK Janda Baik was chosen because the school previously became an evacuation centre for the flood victims because of the recent flood that hit the village in December 2021 and experienced the surge again in May 2022 this year. Both events left the school children still in trauma and shock conditions if the heavy rain ever again occurred every day.

The School Experiential Learning Programme which involved about 400 students and 30 teachers of SK Janda Baik, aims to foster the knowledge of school students and apply best practices on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in line with the objectives of the School Transformation Program 2025 (TS25) in the development of quality students and schools.

The Programme was formulated to suit the school children with a game-style module, such as the giant board game, landslide model, emergency grab bag puzzles, disaster events colouring contest, etc.

A landslide model aims to provide basic knowledge to the students on how the landslide occurred and the effect of the landslide on the houses surrounding it.

The Capacity Building Workshop on DRR Knowledge and Awareness was held on 22 August 2022 at the Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Tengku Ampuan Afzan Campus in Kuala Lipis, Pahang. A research group of YYPs Empowerment organised the workshop: Implementing SETI for Disaster Resilience led by the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia鈥檚 Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Initiative (SEADPRI-澳洲幸运10开奖) and U-INSPIRE Malaysia@澳洲幸运10开奖 in collaboration with UNICEF Malaysia with great support from the Asian Network on Climate Science and Technology (ANCST) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).

Enhancing capacity offers vulnerable communities the opportunity to manage adverse conditions, risks, or disasters.

Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030

The participants of this workshop were a total of 46 prospective peribumi (indigenous) teachers from the Pusat Kecemerlangan Pedagogi Peribumi Kebangsaan (PKPPK) of IPG Tengku Ampuan Afzan from various fields of study. The one-day workshop began with a lecture in the morning session on introduction to different types of disasters and elaboration on the mechanism of disaster management at the national and local levels. The session was followed by a discussion between our researchers and participants. The afternoon session was filled with interactive and hands-on disaster activities such as hazards model constructions and physical games i.e., volcanic eruptions, mudslides, and earthquakes, and a discussion and presentation of actions during hazard scenarios. This workshop intends to establish a cohort of prospective teachers who can train other prospective teachers and be a medium of disseminating information to school students to understand disaster issues so they can match the disaster knowledge obtained with their background.
